Hi there! If you haven’t guessed by now, I’m a health and wellness copywriter. 

This doesn’t mean I make copies and it has nothing to do with legal rights. I’m not judging – I also thought that at first. As a health and wellness copywriter, I help health professionals grow their businesses and gain more clients. 

How do I do this? Why should you, as a health professional, care about copywriting for your business?

And when should you hire a copywriter?

I’m going to go over all of these questions you didn’t ask. But first, I’m going to give you a general overview of what copywriting entails.

Copywriting Is Everywhere

If you’ve ever googled an answer to a problem you were having, you’ve seen copy.

The word “blog” might conjure up images of someone sitting in Starbucks writing about how the two-hundredth secret menu drink is better than all the other ones (but really, how is it a secret anymore? If secret means “can’t fit on the menu”, then I guess it’s secret).

While this can be true for someone’s personal blog, webpages and articles written by companies and institutions are what pop up in search results.

Many business owners hire a health and wellness copywriter to write:

  • Website pages.

  • Website articles (blogs).

  • Emails.

  • Social media ads/posts.

And many other types of copy that inform their audience about who they help and how they help them. 

A health and wellness copywriter brings a lot to the table, including knowledge of marketing, psychology, and writing. 

It sounds easy to do on your own, right?

Hold onto your hats, this is gonna be a wild ride.

You have the certifications, education, and experience to back up your passion.

If I needed help with reducing hormonal-related pain and discomfort, I wouldn’t ask my dentist. In the same way, if you’re writing your own copy, you’re missing out on the results that a health and wellness copywriter can drive with their expertise. 

Even if you’re a good writer and enjoy it, if you haven’t studied marketing and copywriting, it likely won’t produce results that move the needle forward. 

You’ll sink your time and energy into writing when you could be spending it on your clients and your own mental and physical well-being.

  2. Doesn’t pique their interest…

  3. Isn’t the kind of content they signed up to receive…

According to OptinMonster, a lead generation software company, 47% of email subscribers open emails based on the subject line [1]. If this wasn’t intimidating enough, 69% of subscribers will report email as spam based on the subject line.

So leave the clickbait to the YouTube pranksters.

Email marketing has the highest ROI of any digital marketing. But when you’re just starting to build your list, you don’t know what works for you yet.

A health and wellness copywriter can provide different versions of the:

  • CTA.

  • Headline. 

  • Layout.

  • Email length. 

And so much more to determine what works best. This is known as A/B testing. 

Email already has an incredible ROI of about $36 for every $1 spent, but testing can lead to a 28% higher return for your business [2]. 

Why a Health and Wellness Copywriter Is Better than AI

There’s a lot of buzz about AI and whether or not it’ll replace copywriters. 

It might one day, but it’s not there yet.

And while it might seem like a good idea to go the cheap route and not have to hire a health and wellness copywriter, here are some things to think about.

  1. You still need to learn marketing and copywriting.

My copywriting mentor once mentioned how AI can write code, but if you don’t understand coding, you won’t know what to do with it.

The same thing goes for copywriting. If you don’t know what works, what doesn’t, and why, you’ll be going around in circles.

You still need to do client research, market research, and competitor analysis. 


2. AI doesn’t fact-check.

If you’re someone who appreciates facts, AI is not your best friend. 

You’ll spend a lot of time fact-checking whatever AI spits out. It borrows content from every corner of the internet, so don’t count on it being able to filter between fact and fiction. 

3. AI spits out generic and robotic content. 

If you grew up wanting to be like everyone else, AI is for you. 

Who wants to be their own person with a unique perspective and voice anyways? 

Well, I’m sure you do. I know I want to be different (even though my mom already says I’m special). 

We could go down the rabbit hole of why AI isn’t the best choice for your business. But this article isn’t solely about AI and there are plenty of resources out there. 

Ultimately, the decision is up to you. So don’t go asking ChatGPT if you should hire a health and wellness copywriter or use it to be your own copywriter – especially because we don’t want it thinking too hard and gaining sentience. 

I’m kidding. Or am I?

Blogs Written by a Health and Wellness Copywriter

Blogs are a great strategy to position yourself as an authority in your industry, in the eyes of your ideal clients and peers. 

This can open you up to collaborations, more clients, and other opportunities. 

As a health and wellness copywriter, I know how to perform keyword research based on your ideal client’s health concerns and their desired transformation.

Once again, blogs written by AI are often:

  • Generic – they’re basically knockoffs of blogs written by humans. I don’t know about you, but if I see ketchup and “tomato condiment” on a grocery store shelf, I’m going for the ketchup. 

  • Less credible – AI won’t cite all of your sources for you, or check their validity.

  • Difficult to tailor to your ideal audience.

If you use AI instead of a health and wellness copywriter to write your blogs, you’ll need to have experience with copywriting and AI tools. 

The finished product is only as good as the prompts you give to your AI buddy³. 

This is time-consuming. And you’ll still end up with something that needs work to sound human and connect with your audience.

  • Keyword research so their ideal clients are finding them, instead of people who don’t need their services (more traffic to your website means nothing if you aren’t reaching the right people).
